Solar
Wiring Kit: For
builders or for individuals building their own home, makes your home solar
ready. The kit includes wiring and AC, DC disconnect circuitry needed to
interface solar and/or wind electrical generators with house wiring and the
energy grid.
|
|
Solar Panels: Both solar-thermal and solar-electrical generation units are
available for installation in new construction and/or retrofit to existing
construction. Solar-electrical generating units connect to the solar wiring
kit.
Solar Shingles: Solar shingles replace normal roof shingles, but generate
electrical energy. Solar shingles connect to the solar wiring kit.
|
|
Roof-Mount
Wind Generators: New
plastic roof-mount wind generators can generate part of your electrical needs
in conjunction with either solar or grid-based electric energy. Wind
generators connect to the solar wiring kit.

Composters and Refrigerators
Sun Frost
|
|
|
The Scrap Eater can be used to rapidly compost large batches of food scraps at
one time, but is typically used by adding small amounts of scraps every few
days. The ability of the composter to rapidly decompose food scraps decreases
the rate at which the chamber fills up. As food scraps decompose they will
decrease in volume by 20 times or more. Part of the material is lost through
evaporation, but most of the scraps are consumed by the hungry microbes in
the composter and exhausted as carbon dioxide and water vapor.
Energy-Efficient Refrigerators are also available for home and
commercial use. These highly efficient refrigerators are perfect for solar
or wind powered operation.

E-Cube Refrigerator Retrofit
|
|
|
E-cube is a small device that can be easily wired into your
existing refrigerator to prevent the compressor from coming on too often and
thus improve energy efficiency.

Roof Mount Wind Turbines
MotorWind horizontal wind turbines
|
|
|
MotorWind
plastic micro wind turbines can be mounted on the roof of houses or
commercial buildings to produce an efficient array of wind turbines to
generate electricity for use in the house or commercial building. Typical home
units consist of 20 turbines that start producing electricity with a 4.5 mph
wind (1 watt). At 10 mph the array produces 10 watts, at 20 mph it produces
100 watts and at 45 mph it produces 1000 watts.
|
|
Pictured at
the right is an array of 387 (9 x 40) that used colored turbines to spell out
the name of the Hong Kong Sea School. Arrays are constructed from 20 x 1
units and can include virtually any color to be used as both a sign and a
generator. Commercial buildings have been successful in selling advertising
to defer some of the cost of the units. This array produces 18 watts at
start up (4.5 mph wind), 180 watts in a 10 mph wind, 1800 watts in a 20 mph
wind and 18 kW in a 45 mph wind. The units can be connected to the grid, but
these units are stand-alone supplying lighting for the dormitories.

GoldWind vertical wind turbines
|
|
|
GoldWind
vertical wind turbines provide as significant advantage over horizontal wind
turbines in their ability to tolerate variable winds both in direction and
velocity. The turbines are extremely quiet (less than 30 db) and can be
mounted easily on residential and commercial buildings. The basic 500 watt
unit is extremely small and suited for
|
|
|
|
use on residential rooftops. Multiple 500 watt units are very
effective in generating electricity for residential use. While the 3 kW, 5
kW and 10 kW units can be used in residential applications, they are better
suited for use on commercial buildings. All units operate with winds in the
4 mph to 40 mph range and are protected against high wind.

Roof Mount Solar Shingles
Uni-Solar Solar Shingles
|
|
|
|
Solar shingles
(shown to the right) are constructed from 12 inch by 86.5 inch solar tiles.
Each tile can be wired in a number of different ways to maximize the
effective electric generation. The tiles provide both wind and rain
protection equivalent to standard asphalt shingles and provide simultaneously
photo-voltaic electric power. The solar shingles can be intermingled with
standard asphalt shingles. The size of the array is dependent on the power
needs of the house. Solar shingles are primarily designed for residential
usage. They are compatible with the Solar Synapse wiring kit and can be
connected to the grid or run stand alone to provide power for lighting or
other uses in the residence. In many locations, solar shingles combined with
wind turbines will guarantee year-round electrical production sufficient to
power most homes.

New LED Replacement Light Bulbs for Standard Flood and Spot Lights
Replacement for Standard
PAR-30 Type Spot or Flood Light
|
Synapse
International recommends the replacement of spot or flood lights used indoors
with Xled’s GA3022 PAR-30 Type
LED lamp. The bulbs come in six colors:
- 3000K
Warm White
- 5500K
Cool White
- RED
- GREEN
- BLUE
- YELLOW
The
product comes in two beam widths, 30 degrees and 55 degrees. The Cool White
is rated at 1500 LUX with 660 Lumens at 30 degrees and 1000 LUX and 750
Lumens at 55 degrees. Synapse International believes that these lights are
currently the best available for use as reading lamps providing very good
color rendering and good brightness. The light fits a standard E26/E27
socket and is specifically designed to
fit in a standard
|
|
PAR-30 socket. The bulb
is fairly heavy. When used in a reading lamp, be sure to use a lamp that
allows you to adjust the angle of the light and that is sturdy enough to
handle a heavy light bulb. The bulb is rated for indoor use only and is
appropriate for indoor spot lights, recessed lighting and reading lamps.
This bulb consumes 22 watts maximum but is the brightest LED light we are
aware of. Although it is quite expensive, one could expect to payback the
cost in electricity savings several times over the lifetime of the bulb.
Bulb comes with a one-year warrantee, but should last at least five years in
normal use.

New LED Replacement Light Bulbs for MR-16 Spot and Reading Lights
Replacement for Standard
MR-16 Type Reading or Spot Light
|
Synapse
International recommends the replacement of halogen MR-16 reading, spot or
flood lights with XLED’s GA1407V MR-16 type LED lamp. The bulbs come in six
colors:
- 3000K
Warm White
- 5500K
Cool White
- RED
- GREEN
- BLUE
- YELLOW
The
product comes in two beam widths, 30 degrees and 55 degrees. The Cool White
is rated at 550 LUX with 260 Lumens at 30 degrees and 350 LUX and 280 Lumens
at 55 degrees. Synapse International believes that these lights are
currently the best available halogen replacements for use as reading lamps
providing very good color rendering and good brightness. The light fits an
MR-16 socket and is also available in GU-5.3. When used in a
|
|
reading lamp, be sure to
use a lamp that allows you to adjust the angle of the light. The bulb is
rated for indoor use only and is appropriate for indoor reading lights or
indoor spot or flood lights, recessed lighting and track lights. This bulb
consumes 7 watts maximum and can therefore be used in virtually any MR-16
halogen fixture. The light output is similar to a 75 to 100 watt halogen, but
can be used to replace any MR-16 halogen bulb. Although it is quite
expensive, one could expect to payback the cost in electricity savings
several times over the lifetime of the bulb. Bulb comes with a one-year
warrantee, but should last at least five years in normal use.
